Please note copies of this letter will be sent out by email / letter tomorrow – 15/11/17.
You will be aware that all pupils from P6 upwards are to receive a portable device for school use. The chosen device in Highland is a Chrome Book. The Chromebooks for P6 and P7 children in school will be arriving soon and we are working as a school on an updated e-safety policy. If you are interested in helping with the policy, then please join us at the next Parent Council meeting on Wednesday 24th January at 6pm.
The Chrome Books will come with an acceptable use policy and guidance. Initially they will be expected to remain in school. The intention is that Chrome Books will go home with pupils and pupils will be responsible for the charging / care of their device. However, we need to ensure initially that all pupils understand how to use them and also use them safely and appropriately.
There will also be an information evening at Dingwall Academy about the new Chrome Books, for all P6 and P7 parents on Tuesday 21st November at 7pm. These sessions will demonstrate how the Chrome Books are used in school and answer some common questions.
At both Parent Contact evenings at Ben Wyvis, there will be information in the reception area of the school with regards the new Chrome Books and e-safety.
We would be grateful if you could complete our on-line e-safety survey. It should take you only a few minutes:
This link will be uploaded shortly.
This survey is also available as a link on our facebook page and blog. The results of this survey will give us a better understanding of how we can support our school community with regards e-safety. The survey also forms part of our on-going self-evaluation. We aim to be the ‘best we can be’ and to do this we need Parents and Carers to be involved, so please take part in the survey and join us at the Parent Council meeting to discuss school policy.
e-Safety is about the protection of children whilst they are using the internet and digital technologies, including gaming devices. This includes: risk-taking and inappropriate behaviour by children and young people; risks and inappropriate behaviour by others to children and young people and misuse of digital technologies.
Thank you for taking the time to support the school. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school. I will be available at both Parent Contact Evenings to also answer any individual questions about e-safety or the Chrome Books.
Tania Mackie, Head Teacher.
